One exciting thing about being a little black girl is that they get to wear different hairstyles every week. Whether it’s cornrows with beads and other accessories, little girls have so many choices to choose from when it comes to their hair.
As a little girl growing up in Nigeria in the 90s and early 2000s, I used to go to the hairdresser every week to get a new hairstyle because girls at my school were given a new hairstyle they had to wear each week.
This is also no surprise why I get the most visitors to the website every weekend because parents are looking for a new hairstyle for their kids to wear the following week.
How do I find a hairstylist that does kids’ hair in my area?
To find the best hairstylist for your child’s hair, I recommend searching for a hairstylist in your city on Instagram or ask other parents for referrals.
Then you can try them out to see who is the best hairstylist for your kids.
How do I maintain my daughters’ hair while in beads?
To reduce discomfort while your child sleeps at night, be sure she goes to bed in a satin bonnet so that her hair is kept in place while she’s asleep.
To moisturize her hair during the week, simply spray her hair with one of these leave-in conditioner sprays or use your own DIY leave-in spritz.
When she showers, please make sure she wears a shower cap.
To keep her scalp moisturized, use an anti-itch scalp oil that will keep her roots fresh and supple.
Are beads dangerous and can my child choke on them?
Without a doubt, these beads can be hazardous to kids, this is why you have to ensure that they are secured tightly to your child’s hair so that they don’t come off easily, especially when she’s asleep.
Are the beads heavy? Will they add too much weight to my child’s hair?
These beads are actually lightweight and almost don’t weigh much.
This means that you can add as many beads as you like to your child’s hair and she won’t notice the added weight.
It may be loud sometimes though, so maybe pack her hair together to reduce noise.
How long can these hairstyles last?
I have included an estimated length of days or weeks each hairstyle should last for in the post below.
Please note that you can take your child’s hair down anytime you want, which means that you can take them out before or after the estimated time.
You will also notice that I underestimated the length of time each hairstyle should last for.
This is mainly because children’s hair gets frizzy much sooner than adults’ hair because they don’t pay the same level of attention to their looks as adults do.
Also, kids grow fast, which means that you won’t always have the opportunity to do cute kids’ hairstyles on your kids.
Very soon, your child will turn 13 and will not be interested in doing childish hairstyles anymore.
So it’s best to take advantage of the time you have right now, by playing around with as many kid-friendly hairstyles as you can and while you can.
Also, if these beads start to get too loud and uncomfortable for your child, you can remove them and just leave the hairstyle with no beads.
You can also remove some of the beads so that she has fewer beads in her hair.
For hairstyles that can last up to a month, you can change up the beads to a different color or different types of beads, so it looks like she has a new hairstyle on, even though it’s the same hairstyle all along.
How can I add beads to my child’s hair?
Most hair beads packs often come with a tool that will allow you to easily add beads to your child’s hair.
