Whenever you’re getting a manicure, choosing the perfect nail shape is very important, as it is the canvas that will determine the overall look and vibe of your nails. While there are many different nail shapes to choose from these days, almond-shaped nails are undoubtedly one of the most popular and trendiest looks you can go for.
With their perfectly tapered edges and slightly pointy tips, almond-shaped nails offer a combination of length, functionality, and slight edginess. Plus, they look flattering on everyone.
Up ahead, I’ve put together some incredible almond-shaped nails to give you ideas for your next manicure.
Can Short Nails Be Almond Shaped?
Although almond-shaped nails typically require a bit of length to achieve the perfect pointy tip, you don’t necessarily need extremely long nails to create the shape. You can create an almond shape with short nails as long as the nail bed is slightly longer than your fingertip. Using nail extensions or acrylic is the perfect way to do this.
However, If you are trying to get an almond shape with short natural nails, then it may be hard to achieve the look, as really short nails will have a hard time forming the signature tapered edges of the look. You can still make them in an almond shape.
How Long Do Your Natural Nails Have To Be For An Almond Shape?
To achieve the perfect almond-shaped look on your nail, your natural nails need to be longer than the base of your fingertips. While they do not need to be extremely long, they still need to be at least 0.5-1 centimeter longer in order to go beyond your fingertips and create the pointy tips.
How Do You Create Almond-Shaped Nails At Home?
To shape your nails into an almond look, simply follow the steps below:
- If you are using nail extensions or have very long natural nails start off cutting the nails to your desired length, then use a nail clipper to trim both edges of the nail.
- Mark a spot at the center of your nails and file both edges of the nails upwards towards that center using a nail file.
- After you have created the angled edges on both sides, file the corner to smooth out the sharpness of the shape. Then slightly file the tip of the nail to create your desired pointy almond tip.
- Use a nail buffer to slightly file and smooth the corners and edges of the almond-shaped nail.
- Once you have created the almond shape, apply some cuticle oil to the nails. Then go in with your desired nail polish/design.

French manicure designs are very popular right now and look really good on almond-shaped nails. However, there are many other patterns, colors, and even art prints that look stunning on almond-shaped nails, as well.
Do Almond Nails Look Natural?
